Blessed Chiara Badano

Chiara Badano didn't live so long ago. In fact, Chiara was born in 1971 in Sassello, Italy. She came from a loving, devout family. Like many Catholic teenagers, her life was a mix of school, friends, family, sports, and youth group. She went dancing, listened to pop music, swam and played tennis. She balanced this with a strong prayer life, retreats, and service to the poor. One day Chiara's typical life was interrupted. While playing tennis she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder and after visiting the doctor she was told she had cancer.

While many would understandably crumble under such devastating news, Chiara's real strength began to show. As Chiara's suffering increased, so did her faith and her joy. Doctors, nurses, visiting clergy, and other patients could not help but be changed by Chiara's joy and light in the face of so much pain and suffering. When Chiara's hair began to fall out she would hold it up and offer it to Jesus saying "For you, Jesus". When her spirits would flag she was supported by her family. When the tumor on her spine began to threaten her ability to walk she asked her mother "Mom, will I not walk anymore?" to which her mother replied "Do not worry. If Jesus takes your legs, he will give you wings."

As the illness progressed Chiara began to understand that this was going to be her cross to bear and she united her suffering to the suffering of Jesus on the cross. Her prayers echoed that of Christ's prayer in the Garden " “If this is what you want, Jesus, so do I.” She would refuse morphine and other pain killers saying “I want to share as much as possible in His suffering on the cross.” With the end coming near Chiara asked to be buried in a wedding dress, and encouraged those around her to be happy because she was going to meet Jesus.

Chiara "Luce" Badnao passed away on October 7th, 1990 and she was the first member of Generation X to be Beatified on September 25, 2010 after her intercession was credited with the miraculous cure of a little boy with meningitis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you ship outside of the US

Not at this time

Why is the shipping on your 8 x 10's so expensive? Do you combine shipping on 8 x 10's?

Due to how Etsy charges for listings, all of my poster sizes are placed in the same listing for one image (these are called variants). Etsy does not allow multiple shipping prices for variants. This is why 8 x 10's are priced at .25 cents (my cost to ship) and ship at the same price as the other posters which is $5.00 (the actual price of the 8 x 10's)
